Maverick & Co, a brand on Shopify Plus, sees an additional 40k USD/month through Monk

Maverick & Co is a global travel and luggage brand specialising in high-quality bags that are suitable for work, travel & general purpose use. They sell across 10+ countries & their best selling Manhattan Briefcase was recently named as the ‘Best Briefcase of 2024’ by Forbes.

Challenges

The team at Maverick & Co was on the hunt for a Shopify app that could improve their cart conversion & would work seamlessly and natively with their theme (using Impulse by Archetype Themes). They specifically did not want an app that created a cart drawer/slider of its own or took over the cart step entirely. The goal was to gamify the shopping cart experience with tiered discounts and keep customers engaged in exploring different products in the store and increase average order value (AOV).

They also were keen on a no code/low code setup that could be customised to suit their brand language and theme design. With this in mind, they experimented with 4-5 apps on the Shopify App Store and finally decided on Monk.

Strategy & Results

They added Monk to the store to employs 2 different features of the app to gamify the cart experience:

  1. Cart Progress Bar

  2. Cart Cross Sell

A tiered progress bar was embedded in the theme’s native cart drawer with the app that displayed two rewards:

Cart value > $340 → 10% OFF
Cart value > $440 → 15% OFF

Both these discounts are configured using Shopify discount codes and Monk’s progress bar is used to display them once a customer crossed the specific cart value thresholds. This is supplemented with recommendations in cart that are personalised based on the specific items that a customer has already added.

The complete cart gamification set-up was then cloned across all their major international markets to match their respective currencies and languages. Monk's deep integration with Shopify Markets makes setting up such multi currency, multi geography offers seamless.

This has now been live on the store for > 12 months and drives USD 40k in additional revenues each month and their team spends just 1-2 hours every week to maintain it and track metrics via the in-app analytics. There has been no observed drop in conversion rates (CVR) since making this change

Apart from these features, they are now also experimenting with Monk’s new checkout upsell & free gift features exclusively built for brands on Shopify Plus. This lets brands embed upsells, gift with purchase offers and a progress bar right inside their native Shopify checkout.

The cart & checkout are two of the most underutilised real estates on a storefront and if used smartly it can be turned into a conversion machine, driving a 10-20% increase in AOV whilst not impacting the overall conversion rates, shopping experience and customer journey. The key here is to create a highly targeted & personalised set-up that nudges customers to keep shopping for more items without directly interfering in their buying journey and Maverick & Co is a great example on how to execute this perfectly.
